MINT Canadian Specialty is offering Canadian doctors unique protection against legal action when treating non-Canadian patients in Canada.

Latitude Advantage MD, developed by MINT Canadian Specialty, provides an insurance option for physicians who may face legal action resulting from the care they provide to non-Canadian patients in Canada for short periods of time. Further, Latitude Advantage MD responds to legal action brought in the United States or Canada.

“We recognized that physicians found themselves in a position of uncertainty about treating these patients, says Barrett Hubbard, the managing director of MINT Canadian Specialty. “Using our experience in the medical and allied health area, we developed an offering that will complement the physicians’ insurance portfolio and, we believe, open new opportunities for them to extend their patient base.

Medical services most affected included dermatology, cosmetic and plastic surgery, as well as orthopaedic and sports medicine specialties. Latitude Advantage MD is offered to any licensed medical doctor, osteopathic doctor, podiatrist, dental/oral and maxiofacial surgeon.

Features of the product include limits of up to $1 million per claim, with a per-policy aggregate of $3 million and a minimum deductible of $1,000 per claim.

“Latitude Advantage MD also comes with US claims expertise accessing MINT Canadian Specialty’s sister company, Shand Morahan, a MINT Canadian Specialty press release says. “As a Top 10 writer of U.S. medical malpractice coverage, MINT Canadian Specialty clients will benefit from more than 25 years experience underwriting health care coverages in difficult U.S. jurisdictions. Claims in Canada will be handled by the world’s largest independent claims firm, Crawford Canada.
