ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sep 23, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) — The American Medical Group Association (AMGA) and Phytel, the national leader in automated patient care management, today announced a collaboration aimed at helping physicians proactively manage preventive health and disease management protocols. This collaboration makes Phytel the newest member of the AMGA Value-Added Services Program and provides AMGA members with access to the company’s Proactive Patient Outreach technology at preferred pricing.

The AMGA Value-Added Services Programis designed to facilitate members’ efforts to improve their business operations and bottom line through innovative programs, discounts, and ready access to ancillary service providers. The Phytel Proactive Patient Outreach solution improves care coordination by automating the follow-up process for a practice’s patient population, specifically patients with chronic conditions and those in need of preventive care services.

AMGA made the decision to collaborate with Phytel following the completion of a market research program engagement that was executed to test the level of AMGA members’ interest in Phytel’s technology. The research found that existing Phytel customers who were also AMGA members had demonstrated compelling results in quality and financial measures. In addition, member feedback indicated that the solution offered value in advancing patient-centered care, following evidence-based guidelines, enhancing quality and efficiency, improving outcomes, systematic monitoring of patient compliance, and automating the care management process.

“This service will enable AMGA members to better coordinate care for their patients and engage their patients in actively improving their health status by complying with recommendations and keeping up-to-date with health services,” said Donald W. Fisher, Ph.D., CAE, president and chief executive officer of AMGA. “By addressing these patient needs, the groups will be able to not only better serve their patients, but also add to their bottom line through participation in pay-for-performance reimbursement programs.”

“We are pleased to partner with AMGA, an organization that embraces a shared vision of leveraging technology to support physicians in their efforts to enhance ongoing quality care for their patients,” says Steve Schelhammer, CEO of Phytel. “The alignment of core values makes this collaboration a perfect fit.”

The Phytel Proactive Patient Outreach solution aggregates information from practice management systems, electronic medical records, hospital information systems, and other available data sources to create a Phytel registry for the practice or organization. Phytel applies evidence-based disease management and preventive care protocols against the registry data to determine which patients are due for care. Identified patients are then notified through automated outreach messaging. Proactive Patient Outreach also enables practices to track a patient’s responses and monitor compliance.
