A board-certified anesthesiologist with Southeast Anesthesiology Consultants, Robinson has already made numerous trips to Raleigh to meet with legislators in an attempt to lay a foundation for physicians to improve the quality of care provided to patients.
“Across the country, anesthesiologists are leading the effort to improve the quality of care that patients receive,” Robinson said. “In 2008, we are going to find and implement new ways to document and quantify the care delivered to patients.”
Robinson was the first physician to attend the North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership, a six-month course offered at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, designed for politically active citizens who are interested in either running for office or understanding the political system in more depth. He took the course to better understand how government affects the practice of medicine. Later, Robinson became the first physician to attend Leadership North Carolina.
“As president, I will continue to encourage physician involvement in the Legislative arena,” Robinson added. “Having a strong voice in Raleigh will be essential as doctors address issues such as cost, availability and quality of health care.”
As an active member of the NCSA since 1993, Robinson has served as the chairman of the legislative committee for the last seven years, and he held the position of secretary/treasurer last year. He also served as the chairman of the North Carolina Medical Society’s legislative committee.
Robinson has worked with the American Society of Anesthesiologists on how to build Political Action Committees (PACs), which are groups that work on legislative affairs affecting all specialties of medicine and try to build physician awareness of the importance of legislative affairs. Several PACs have now been formed in North Carolina.
