Every hour five babies are born prematurely. With the rise in women giving birth later in life, the use of assisted reproductive technology escalates-as does the percentage of newborn babies born high-risk.
Dr. Edith McCarthy, a leading Manhattan-based physician certified in both Pediatric Medicine and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, is changing the face of pediatric care with the opening of a progressive medical practice-Care Intensive Pediatrics, PLLC.
Care Intensive Pediatrics is a pediatric practice specializing in providing “intensive” medical care for infants and children who required neonatal intensive care, for reasons including premature birth. Dr. McCarthy is aiming to set the standard in high-risk infant/child care in an effort to enhance the lives of these children and their families.
Care Intensive Pediatrics eases families’ transition from the NICU with care that is consistently attentive and geared precisely to each patient’s special needs. Dr. McCarthy coordinates her patients’ care with other pediatric sub-specialists and incorporates leading specialists in the fields of occupational therapy, psychology and nutrition as well as educational consultants skilled in neuro-psychological testing-an advanced, comprehensive approach that sets her apart from other practices.
Delivering the highest quality care to patients ranging in age from birth to 21, Care Intensive Pediatrics was born from Dr. McCarthy’s desire to create an environment that is nurturing, comfortable, spirit-lifting and engaging, in terms of the personalized care provided to patients and the information available to their parents.
Dr. McCarthy has treated more than 15,000 infants, both full-term and pre- term, with a wide range of medical conditions. She holds faculty appointments at NYU Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Center and has admitting privileges at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Cornell Medical Center and Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr. McCarthy received her BA degree in biology with honors from New York University, attended U.M.D.N.J.-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed her residency in Pediatrics at Cornell Medical Center/The New York Hospital.
Care Intensive Pediatrics is located in Manhattan at 244 East 32nd Street.
